Why does the Queen have corgis?

The Queen of England has kept Corgis since her 18th birthday in 1944 when her parents presented her with a Corgi named Susan, after the Princess wanted one of her own having played in Hyde Park with a corgi that belonged to Viscount Weymouth. Subsequently, all of the Queen’s Corgis have descended from this one dog who passed away in 1959 and the Queen has now kept a total of more than 30 Corgis to date.

Queen Elizabeth used to have nine dogs, five of whom were Corgis and four were Dorgis (Corgis that are crossbred with Dachshunds), but two Corgis passed away in May 2009 and the 7 remaining dogs (Holly, Linnet, Monty, Candy, Cider, Berry and Vulcan) will be the last of the royal corgis.
