The Pug as a dog breed is a very popular choice for many. The Pug characteristics are mainly that they have a wrinkled face with short muzzle appearance and generally they have a curled tail. Pugs also have fine hair that has a gloss coat effect. They also can be found with various colours such as silver, apricot, fawn or black.
They are not a tall dog and indeed are well proportioned with good muscular build. Pugs also have short legs and a long back. They originated as a breed in China and were made popular in Holland and the UK.
What is the temperament of a Pug ?
Generally, Pugs have a gentle temperament and are known for being sociable which makes them a good companion for the young or elderly. They are often described as multum in parvo, which when translated reads: “much in little”.
Are there any health issues with Pugs ?
Because Pugs have a short muzzle or snout this means they also have longer palates which results in the occasional bout of reversed sneezing. Reverse sneezing episodes leave them gasping and snorting for periods of time but they are considered normal for this breed.
