One of the biggest annoyances that can come with owning a dog is if he/she likes to constantly dig holes and how to stop dogs from digging. Our dogs bring lots of joy into our lives, but excessive digging problems can certainly put a strain on the owner-dog relationship.
Give your dog lots of exercise, including heaps of physical and mental stimulation. Your dog’s energy must be burned off in one way or another so why not channel it into something positive.
You could purchase a large, deep sandbox, and fill it with clay or sand. You can even plant grass on the top to really make your dog happy. It won’t take long before he understands that the sandbox/corner of the garden is where he can dig, and nowhere else.
If you are at home with your dog for a few days, you could have some success with this method. Whenever your dog starts to dig, reprimand him and spray him with the garden hose. This method produces a negative association to your dog each time he digs.
You could go to your local Pet Shop where you can get many commercial products that claim to help digging problems. They can work with some dogs and may be a solution worth trying it you cannot resolve the digging problem through training.
